POSITION INFO:

This position is primarily responsible for supporting new product development, continuous improvement ideas, and the evaluation of field issues involving metals.  This position will also support production foundry locations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Provide technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes, products, and applications.
•    Make recommendations and advise about product feasibility.
•    Investigate corrosion and metal failure/fatigue.
•    Conduct material analyses to determine physical and mechanical properties of metals.
•    Develop and/or optimize metallurgical processes for manufacturing and industrial applications.
•    Design and conduct experiments to test durability and performance of metals.
•    Stay current with advancements in the field.
•    Perform failure analyses on metal components to identify causes and suggest improvements.
•    Evaluate and recommend equipment needs for continuous improvement.
•    Represent NIBCO Inc. at industry associations.
•    Facilitate and conduct product testing, coordinating sample and supporting hardware procurement.
•    Provide support to plant foundry operations.
•    Provide support to legal efforts via material analyses.
•    Resource for corporate and plant cross-functional teams.
•    Provide product support to sales, marketing and customer service.
•    Provide technical support and leadership for assigned projects.
•    25% travel.
•    Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

2 to 5 years of experience in Foundry Operations.  Proficient in Microsoft office applications.  

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or Equivalent

TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Effective verbal and written communications.  Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with peers, customers, project teams and leadership.  Experience working independently or in a project team environment within a defined deadline. Ability to utilize mathematical concepts to identify opportunities, manipulate data and solve problems. Proficient in the use of associated equipment (Tensile, Spectrometer, Microscope, XRF, Hardness, etc).  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Prolonged periods of standing and walking through the factory and lab.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on computers.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
Visual acuity to inspect products and machinery.
Must be able to travel.
